Weed is an American comedy television series created by Jenji Kohan, produced by Lions Gate Television for the Showtime network. The plot revolves around a widowed housewife (Mary-Louise Parker) from an affluent California suburb who becomes her neighborhood's marijuana dealer to make ends meet. The title is a play on words, referring to a common slang for marijuana.
It is also refers to the tendency of the American suburbs to grow rapidly and pervasively, with homes and their residents are almost indistinguishable as weeds. This is reflected in the show theme song "Little Boxes" and the opening credits, and is a recurrent theme in the show itself. Going against this "all the same theme, in the second and third seasons theme song is performed by over twenty different artists.
