Michelle Obama New shoe £365
Michelle Obama is not quite the fashion democrat. Volunteering at a charity food bank in Washington, the First Lady wore some suitably utilitarian three-quarter-length trousers, a £60 white and yellow cardigan from her favourite mall chain store J Crew - and finished the look off with a $730 (£365) pair of trainers. They are also available in denim and satin, and have sold out at New York's top shops.'They are shoes, was the snippy response from Michelle Obama's spokesperson in response to enquiries about the instructor. They are not just shoes. The grey suede trainers with metallic pink toe and grosgrain ribbon laces are by exclusive French couture house Lanvin, and are currently hot property among fashion fans.
And while there's no denying Michelle Obama is a big fan of J Crew's affordable clothes - she frequently wears the store's bright separates and dresses her two daughters in the label - her wardrobe is peppered with high end designer labels.
Insiders speculate that Michelle sourced the shoes, worn to package up food parcels for the poor, at Ikram, the Chicago boutique that has been the First Lady's fashion feeding tube ever since she entered the public eye. Boutique owner Ikram Goldman is said to be behind many of Michelle's savviest style choices, including the gold Isabel Toledo dress and jacket she chose for her husband's inauguration, as well as the white ball gown by 26-year-old designer Jason Wu she wore at the inauguration ball.
