Shakira, la Colombian singing sensation and humanitarian, just added a second a second gold star to her already clean reputation for being a good role model. In her hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia, Shaki opened a school that takes in 1500 underpriveleged children.

In an interview with Caracol Television, Shakira explained that since adolescence she would find a way to help children who, in spite of the lack of economic resources, want to study. "I've been coming here for the La Playa neighborhood since I was 15 I started my classmates and the nuns to teach children to read," says the artist.
Some stars are lucky to get a school built. But Shakira? She is in fifth. The Barefoot Foundation founder and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, was in his hometown of Barranquilla, Colombia, today to inaugurate the Barefoot Foundation School, a new district, school and community center that will serve 1,590 full-time students - Pre-K through high school. It will also provide services to 8,400 adolescents and their parents from the community.
