President Obama made an unannounced trip to a school to read to children. His motorcade was seen on the way north on 15 Street, and local sources reported he was soon in the capital Public Charter School. There was no mention of a trip on the schedule sent out to journalists the previous day. In school, president and Michelle Obama read to a group of second-graders in the school library from a picture book titled "The Moon over Star", one of the first lunar landing in July 1969. An Associated Press report from the scene said that Obama told the students, "We were just tired of being in the White House."
Principal Janine Gomez said that she heard yesterday from the White House that the president will go to school at 15 and Irving Streets NW. "I thought about all the struggles that my ancestors have been through before we had equal rights," she said of her visits. "I saw two worlds meet." Obama was welcomed to the front door to the capital with 11-year-old Sam Sherman and 10-year-old Karen Tchemi in North Washington. Sherman said yesterday, "Words can not explain. In addition to treatment for second-degree Obama went through parts of the school, which opened in 2000, according to Karen Dresden, head of the Capital City Public Charter School.
Leensa Fufa, 27, a second-grade teacher at the school where students were among the 25 who got a chance to listen to Obama read, said: "It was a great honor of the president, and the first woman to take care of their busy schedule to recognize the work we do here. "
