Miss America 2009, the 84 Miss America pageant was held in Las Vegas Strip in Paradise, Nevada 24 January 2009. The winner was Katie Stamford from Indiana. The pageant was broadcast live on TLC from the performing arts theater at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino is only the fourth time the pageant has been held outside Atlantic City, New Jersey.
Stamford won the $ 50,000 scholarship and hopes to obtain a Bachelor's degree in communications and TV-news anchor. She began to compete in the pageant 15 years. The first runner-up was Miss Georgia Chasity Hardman, who took home a $ 25,000 scholarship. The 52 young women who went on stage in blue jeans, Bikinis and ballgowns after a mini-reality series for pageant PREP work and a week of preliminary competition. After an opening dance, and the traditional parade of states, judges and fans immediately trimmed the field to 15 finalists. Five were trimmed based on the swimsuit and evening gown competitions, while the remaining 10 went on to exhibit their dancing, singing and other skills during the talent portion.
Miss Hawaii Nicole Fox drew cheers when she performed a traditional Tahitian dance, use a large white feathered game head dress and matching skirt. After she left a part of her skirt remaining on the scene. In a new twist, viewers of a lead-in reality show "Miss America: Countdown to the Crown" vote in four of the 15 finalists, while the judges announced the other 11 during a live TV broadcast TLC. The four finalists are chosen by viewers were Stamford, the final winner, and Hardman first runner-up Miss South Dakota and Alexandra Hoffman, and Miss Alabama Amanda Tapley. Stamford was crowned with the reigning Miss America Kirsten Haglund of Michigan, and will soon embark on a year of traveling and learning.
