Dell Inc., which aims to rev up sales as their most personal computer business in the fight recession, is preparing a move into mobile phones as early as next month, said people familiar with the matter. Dell is focusing on the so-called smartphones, higher-end equipment that includes features such as Web surfing and e-mail.
Round Rock, Texas, the company had a group of engineers who work on phones in more than one year from an office in the Chicago area, these people said. The prototype is built on Google Inc. 's Android operating system and Microsoft Corp.' s Windows Mobile software, these people said.
