Activists fight for mental health centers.Darryl Gumm, chairman of the Community Mental Health Board, said mental health services actually need more money in the economic slow down. Other activists said mentally ill patients are forced to travel longer to get help, would rather be home. They asked how the city can take care of so many with fewer workers.

The organizers are planning a rally starting at 9 Thursday at Woodlawn Center, 6337 S. Woodlawn Ave. It is doomed to be closed, and stopped at the town hall. Linda Hatcher, 57, went to Woodlawn Center for almost 20 years. Hatcher - who said she Bipolar and takes medication twice a day for the protection of suicidal thoughts, worries about finding the way to another mental health center. "We can find money for dogs and cats, but not people with mental health problems," Gumm said.
