The MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas was the place to be on Sunday night (April 5) for all things country, as the 44th Annual Academy of Country music Awards arrived.
Hosted by Reba McEntire, the big shindig kicked off with an ensemble performance by Brooks & Dunn, featuring Taylor Swift, Sugarland, Carrie Underwood and Rascal Flatts. McEntire exclaimed, “What an opening! Now that’s what I call a stimulus package!”

The 44th Academy of Country Music Awards swing political, personal, playful and patriotic on Sunday and ultimately opned for popular in bestowing its top honor on "American Idol" winner Ccarriearrie Underwood, naming her entertainer of the year over veteran male performers George Strait, Kenny Chesney and Keith Urban.

"I've had a lot of good moments in the past four years," the Oklahoma-born Underwood said at the climax of the three-hour event at the MGM Grand Arena, "but this one takes the cake."

The award was determined for the second year by popular vote during the show at CBS.com instead of being determined as it had been in past years by the performer who sold the most concert tickets during the previous 12 months, which would have given a fifth title to Chesney.

But the ACM, in striving to boost ratings and make the event more interactive for fans, opened the voting for entertainer and new artist to the public. Carrie Takes ACM’s Biggest Prize
Carrie Underwood scored a major career milestone when she became the first female act since 2000 to win the ACM Entertainer of the Year at The 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards, April 5.
"I’ve had a lot of good moments in the last four years," Carrie said after winning the ACM's top prize. "This one takes the cake." The Dixie Chicks were the last female performers to win Entertainer of the Year. Carrie, who was also named Top Female Vocalist, also broke the four-year hold that Kenny Chesney had on the award. Other marks were set by Rascal Flatts, who won their seventh straight Top Vocal Group award, breaking a record held by Alabama, and Sugarland, who ended the 15-year reign of Brooks & Dunn as Top Vocal Duo. Brad Paisley won Top Male Vocalist for the third consecutive year. Julianne Hough, who was earlier named Top New Female Artist, won in a new category, Artist of the Year, over Jake Owen, the Top New Male Artist, and the Zac Brown Band, winner of Top New Vocal Duo or Group. The Home Depot Humanitarian Award went to LeAnn Rimes.

The show featured plenty of live performances, including Keith Urban, Taylor Swift, Sugarland and Carrie, who sang her version of the Randy Travis hit, "I Told You So." Here is the complete list of winners for The 44th Annual Academy of Country Music Awards.





Bill Anderson Receives ACM Award
The Academy of Country Music presented its inaugural Poet’s Award to Bill Anderson and the late Fred Rose during the Academy of Country Music Honors gala, Sept. 17, at the Musicians Hall of Fame & Museum in Nashville.
“Being given the Poet’s Award is truly a great honor,” Bill noted. He jokingly added, “But I secretly suspect I got the first onebecause they're doing it in alphabetical order!” Paying tribute to three of Bill’s hits were Joe Nichols, who performed “I’ll Wait for You,” Connie Smith with her breakthrough song, “Once a Day”; and Jon Randall singing "Whiskey Lullaby". Brenda Lee, the Oak Ridge Boys and the late singers Conway Twitty and Porter Wagoner were honored as recipients of the Cliffie Stone Pioneer Award. The Honors event also recognized musicians and other non-televised category winners from the ACM Awards show this past May.

Festivals of India - Mahavir Jayanti on tuesday 2009

It is a big celebration on Monday because one birthday of the great Indian god Mahavir (Vardhamana). He was born in the 13 days of the rising moon of Chaitra, in either 599 BC or 615 BC. Mahavir Jayanti celebrated the 8 day holy period Paryushan. During the period, pre-defined measurements are performed from a Holi Scripture - KALP sutra.

On this festival Jain temples are decorated with colorful flags. In the morning the idol of Mahavir is given a ceremonial bath called the 'Abhishek'. All people meditate and offer prayers. Donations are collected to save cows from slaughter. Pilgrims from all parts of the country visit the ancient Jain temples in Girne and Palitana in Gujarat on this festival day.



The holiday occurs in early April on the Gregorian calendar. In Jainism most important religious holiday Mahavir Jayanti. It celebrates the birth of Mahavir, the last Tirthankara.

Mahavir left his mortal coils at the age of 71 on the Deepavali day. But the light is for peace as he continues to illuminate through the myriad of lights Festival of Lights.

Japan to beef up its military and face down the North Korean threat

North Korea has given international agencies notice of the rocket's planned trajectory that would take it over Japan, dropping booster stages to its east and west. North Korea will fire off either a Taepodong-2 intermediate-range ballistic missile or the Paektusan-2 space-launch vehicle. The U.S. and allies Japan and South Korea have issued warnings--some of them firm--to Pyongyang not to do so.




South Korea, Japan and the United States have all said they want to press for more sanctions against the North for a launch and see no difference between a satellite launch and a missile launch because they use the same rocket -- the Taepodong-2. The first and only time the North test-launched the Taepodong-2 in 2006, it fizzled shortly into flight and blew apart after about 40 seconds.

"Even though the North Koreans have made a public declaration that this is a space launch, it would be in violation of the U.N. Security Council Resolution 1718," said Pentagon press secretary Geoff Morrell. "Therefore, we would, of course, oppose it."

He declined to say if the United States would take military action if the missile was launched. TOKYO - Defying threats of sanctions and U.S. urgings, North Korea fired a missile over Japan Sunday, claiming it was a bid to put a satellite into space. Unconvinced, Japan says it will seek United Nations action against the regime and, it insists, may impose its own sanctions on the Stalinist state as detente in East Asia nears collapse.

North Korea warned international maritime authorities last month of the planned firing; subsequent demands by Japan and the U.S. that North Korea stand down failed to deter Kim Jong Il’s regime from the countdown. The imminent launch putt Japan on tenterhooks. Red-faced officials in Tokyo had to apologize Saturday after mistakenly claiming North Korean had launched its missile.

Pop star Madonna wants to adopt,Malawian girl Mercy James, the four-year-old

U.S. pop star Madonna visits Salaza village near Lilongwe, Malawi, Friday, April, 3, 2009. Madonna is very close to adopting the Malawian orphan. A U.S. government official has reportedly confirmed that an adoption bid by the 50-year-old American superstar was under way. Mercy’s mother died during child. Madonna and her daughter Lourdes arrived in Malawi to adopt four-year-old Mercy James today. The two spent their time touring an impoverished village and Madonna discussed plans to build a new school.

Her uncles, who live in a remote rural area and who are her closest relatives, said they had no idea who Madonna was. The singer has an appointment with a judge in Malawi tomorrow in the hope that the adoption papers will be signed. Madonna's application was rejected because of a requirement that prospective parents be resident in the southern African state for 18 to 24 months. No date has been set for a court hearing to appeal against the judge's ruling.

Satyam board has extended the deadline to 13th April

Mumbai, April 4 The Satyam board has extended the deadline to submit technical and financial bids to April 13 from April 9 with the bidders seeking more information on the company, according to Satyam board member Mr Deepak Parekh.

The board is expected to complete the process and announce the name of the successful bidder the same day in Mumbai.





Deepak Parekh, a director on the Satyam board said Saturday. Mr. Parekh also said that the deadline for the bids was being extended to April 13, at the request of the bidders who met with the Satyam board on Friday.

“Additional data on Satyam’s top-line and customer information updated up to February-end is being made available to the bidders through the virtual data rooms. Since the Satyam incident unfolded in December and January, bidders were keen on status of top-line, new projects and cancellations updated up to February-end,” a senior official involved in the bidding process said.

“They sought more time to assimilate the information and finalise their proposal to acquire the controlling stake,” sources close to the development said.

"We have extended the date till April 13 because of three holidays," Mr. Parekh said. He added that the bidders also asked for additional data in their Friday meeting, but declined to disclose the names or the number of bidders pursuing the beleaguered software exporter.

"The bidders have also asked for additional data, which they will get in a day or two," Mr. Parekh added.

Hyderabad-based Satyam, once India's fourth-largest software exporter by revenue, is looking to sell as much as a 51% stake to a buyer who will infuse funds and help revive the company.

The company has been in turmoil after its founder, B. Ramalinga Raju, revealed in January that he overstated its profits over several years and created a fictitious cash balance of more than $1 billion.

Even after deciding on a winning bidder on April 13, the sale process for Satyam could continue beyond that date. There is a possibility of a second round of bidding for the software exporter, if at least one bid 90% or more in value of the highest bid is received.

Friday, Satyam Chairman Kiran Karnik had said that the company was sticking to its earlier announced time schedule for the sale. The government-appointed Satyam board had set April 30 as the date for which it expects to select a successful bidder.

8x10 Tasveer is a story of Jai, a young man in his 30's, who has a supernatural gift.

His father, Jatin, though, feels very strongly that his son is wasting his life away instead of managing the vast business empire he has created and this leads to a complete breakdown of relationship between the two. Jai's wife Sheela is grudgingly supportive of her husband but has a 'real' job and is the actual bread- winner of the family.

Sometime later, Jatin is killed in a boating accident under mysterious circumstances and Jai feels wretched about losing his father and the times that could've been shared. He accidentally stumbles upon the last photograph taken of the entire group of friends and family on the boat, minutes before the accident and while being consumed with grief and curiosity, he starts to investigate by undertaking the dangerous experience. He eventually unravels the mystery and in a nail biting finish comes up with a startling answer. The movie takes clues from "buterfly effect".

Jai realizes that he has a twin brother whom the family lost during their childhood; Twin brother Jeet is angry with the family and he takes revenege and kills everyone. Aayesha Takia helps him in the revenge.

Gandhi Family will file his nomination for the Amethi Lok Sabha seat in Sultanpur

Gandhi's Family Biggest star Politics & Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi will file his nomination for the Amethi Lok Sabha seat in Sultanpur tomorrow. However, his mother and Congress Chief Sonia Gandhi will file her paper for the Rae Bareli seat on April 6.



Rahul, who arrived in Sultanpur on Friday evening, came in a cavalcade and was mobbed by enthusiastic party workers on the way to the district court where the nomination papers were filed.

On both the occasions, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, her husband Robert and Uttar Pradesh
Congress President Rita Bahuguna Joshi would be present, said state Congress spokesperson Akhilesh Pratap Singh here today.

He said Mr Gandhi will file his nomination at around 1100 hrs tomorrow at Sultanpur Collectorate, while Ms Gandhi would file her paper at 1100 hrs in Rae Bareli Collectorate.

However, there would be no public meeting in both Sultanpur and Rae Bareli after the process though Mr Gandhi and Ms Gandhi could speak to the media.

The Amethi constituency goes to polls on April 23 and Rae Bareli on April 30. Raising slogans hailing both Rahul and Sonia Gandhi, party workers showered them with rose petals and waved Congress flags. They were also carrying placards with pictures of Rahul Gandhi.

Both Sonia and Rahul later boarded an open jeep and greeted people on the way to the district court. Uttar Pradesh Congress chief Rita Bahuguna Joshi, CLP leader Pramod Tiwari, Capt. Satish Sharma and Sultanpur Congress candidate Sanjay Singh were also present during the filing of the nomination papers.

Rahul is seeking election from Amethi for the second time. He had won from here in 2004. The constituency was also represented by his father Rajiv Gandhi several times.

Zaheer Figures will Whitewash Kiwi's in Test

2009 Tata Nano - First Drive Best Review

Tata Nano Worlds cheapest car aims to bring vehicle ownership to the masses. It looks fabulous. Love at first sight, that’s what Tata Motors set out to do (no, really) and Justin Novak, formerly of the I.D.E.A design house and now with Triton design in Italy (along with most of the old I.D.E.A crew that worked on all of Tata Motor’s designs), has penned what will definitely go down in time as a classic.



Much like the Beetle and Fiat 500 the Nano is inherently right, a small car of such appealing lines and a happy countenance that no matter what your financial ability you will love it. This has the ability to become the ultimate classless vehicle; something that will appeal to rich, middle class and poor folk alike – and which could spawn a whole range of cool T-shirts and stuff! Until it becomes a common sight clogging up our roads (and it will, but that’s not Tata Motors’ fault now, is it?) this will turn more heads than Bipasha Basu streaking across the road.

Interiors are as impressive.
Okay it is all very simple and functional but in such a small car having the speedo in the centre actually improves aesthetics. And it has the cutest warning light in the world, a little yellow outline of the Nano with a spanner running across it – beautiful! The standard Nano gets rexine seats and a single spoke steering but the deluxe version we spent a day in has full fabric seats (rather good looking with that hole in the headrest much like a rally cars!), a three-spoke steering wheel with a rim in soft-touch plastics, two-tone grey dash with very good fit and finish and air-conditioning too. The air-con uses a 60cc compressor but delivers enough cooling power to cool the voluminous interiors quickly.

Fit and finish, and I kid you not, is very good. Of course having only a few components means there’s not many panel gap issues to deal with but on that front it actually feels better put together than the Indica Vista. Having the speedo is the centre obviously means this dash can be used in left and right hand markets. The central console is flanked by a scooped dash which can hold nick-knacks and everything has rounded edges to make it safer in a crash. There is no glove box but there are two cup holders and map pockets in the doors.

The doors are ultra-light (and of course feel flimsy) and have an integrated armrest, door pull and coin holder. It uses a combination of rexine and fabric and at the front there are power windows on the deluxe version while the rear gets manual wind down windows. The deluxe also gets central locking.

Nato's new doctrine appears to sit uneasily with its core defensive purpose. Even getting to age 60 may have been a challenge. But there are more ahead. Nato's "out of area" doctrine allowed it to send troops to Afghanistan.....



As NATO celebrates its 60th anniversary, it is in greater demand than ever before.

The Alliance is keeping the peace in Kosovo, it is engaged in both stabilisation tasks and combat operations in Afghanistan, runs an anti-terrorist naval operation in the Mediterranean, assists defence reform in Bosnia and Herzegovina, trains Iraqi security forces, and provides support to the African Union.

NATO is at the heart of a vast and expanding network of partnerships with countries from across the globe and is developing closer cooperation with key civilian institutions. And the Alliance’s enlargement process remains a strong incentive for aspirant countries to get their house in order.

NATO enters its seventh decade, it needs to overcome a series of challenges that are more difficult and complex than anything it has ever faced before.

In short, at age 60, NATO has become such an indispensable part of the international security environment that it is hard to imagine that it ever could have been otherwise. And yet it was. The initial duration of the 1949 Washington Treaty was modestly set at 20 years, by which time, it was assumed, the post-war recovery of Western Europe would have been completed and the transatlantic defence pact become obsolete.

Few of the people who were present at NATO’s creation would have dared to hope that this Alliance would not only outlast the Cold War conditions that brought it into being, but indeed thrive in a radically different security environment.

The reason why NATO turned from a temporary project into a permanent one is not difficult to fathom. It is because the logic of transatlantic security cooperation is timeless. The need for Europe and North America to tackle security challenges together remains as pressing today as it was 60 years ago.

So does the need for a transatlantic institutional framework which allows for political consultation, joint decisions, and common action. Only NATO can provide this framework.

Reliance Jumps Sensex to 10,348

Reliance Industries says that the Oil is a Major Boost for the Indian Countries. Reliance Industries has started pumping natural gas from a massive deep-sea field in the Bay of Bengal off India's eastern coast.



The government has started receiving its share of profit from Reliance Industries (RIL)-operated D-6 block in the Krishna-Godavari (KG) basin. It has booked $218,960 as its first profit share for the quarter ended December 31, 2008, by selling crude oil produced from the block, a petroleum ministry official said. The block started producing natural gas recently. The profit was generated from the sale of crude oil produced from the block beginning mid-September at an average price of $50.80 a barrel, said the official who didn’t wish to be named.

In the quarter ended December 31, 2008, Reliance Industries (RIL) earned $21,896,016 by selling crude from MA oil field in KG-D6 block. As per the contract between the government and RIL, the contractor was entitled to keep 90% of the sum towards recovering huge investments made by it in developing the field. The balance amount was distributed between the contractor (RIL) and the owner (the government) in a mutually-agreed proportion.

The official said that RIL has spent $6.26 billion in developing the KG basin block. The government has approved $8.84-billion expenditure to produce 80 million standard cubic meters per day (mmscmd) of natural gas from the block. This also includes creation of an excess infrastructure capacity for producing 120 mmscmd of natural gas from the field. An email query to RIL in this regard went unanswered.

The directorate general of hydrocarbons — the technical adviser for upstream activities in the petroleum ministry — didn’t confirm or deny the figures. As per a DGH figure, the contractor had spent $4.65 billion for developing oil and gas fields up to March 31, 2008.

According to an estimate by the petroleum ministry, the field is expected to generate a revenue of $42 billion over the life of the field, which is 11 years. The government is expected to earn $14 billion from the D-6 block. “However, the figure is based on assumptions. It is calculated by keeping gas price at $4.20 per million British thermal unit (MBTU) which is dependent on a formula with variables,” the official said.

Maruti to phase out M800, Omni by 2015-16

New Delhi, April 01: Maruti 800 - the small car that revolutionised personal transport in modern India - will take a bow starting next year and be phased out by 2016, when the country is expected to embrace new emission norms, Maruti Suzuki India said Wednesday.

Along with the M800, MSI will also be phasing out its second oldest model, the utility van Omni. In the initial phase, the two models will be done away with in 11 cities from next year, where the Bharat Stage-IV emission norms (which is equivalent to Euro-IV norms) will become applicable.



"Once Euro-IV emission norms is applied across the country, which is likely to happen around 2015-16, then M800 and Omni may not be a saleable product. We will have to eventually phase (them) out then," MSI Chairman R C Bhargava told.

The company would not upgrade the engines of these two models to meet better emission standards, he said while also ruling out their replacements.

"We regularly introduce new models in the market, but at present there is no plan to bring out substitutes for these two cars," he added.

Three judges are on their feet applauding. But not Simon. And I think it is all the comments we need that.
