The world’s leading carmaker, Toyota, on Wednesday said it will bring its sports advantage vehicle Fortuner in India by September this year, predictable to be priced at about Rs20 lakh.
The corporation, which is present in India through a shared business enterprise with the Kirloskar Group, would initiate the SUV with a three-litre highly developed common-rail diesel engine.
The Fortuner is one of three vehicles based on the Innova platform, the other two being the Innova itself and the all new Toyota Hilux accept up truck which happens to be a commotion in the Thailand market. The Fortuner will feature a 3.0 litre widespread rail diesel inoculation engine from the D-4D engine family and will have around the clock four wheel drive.
“The Fortuner is a vital addition to our manufactured goods array in India and we are presently in the process of finalizing details for the launch,” Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) agent managing director Sandeep Singh said in a statement.
Singh said, "Entering the SUV space was a usual conservatory to our multi-rationale vehicle business. Though by now have the LandCruiser Prado (petrol variant) in this fragment, Fortuner will be our tangible entry into the Indian SUV market."
Singh said that as the Fortuner will be assembled in India, the company is looking at advanced volumes to incarcerate the luxury SUV segment. It will participate with other luxury cars like the Mercedes Benz, Audi and BMW, he said.
Compelling into version the variations in barter rates, the company is still running out on the price details of the SUV, but “expect it to be around Rs20 lakh”,.
Fortuner would be brought into the country as a knocked down unit and would be assembled at TKM’s Bidadi plant.
TKM is currently constructing its second mechanizing competence in Bangalore at an venture of Rs3,200 crore to launch a “strategic” small car in India by 2011.
