President Barack Obama speaks with Prime Minister Stephen Harper during a meeting on Parliament Hill on Thursday. Obama arrived in Canada on his first trip abroad since taking office last month. The U.S. leader made the 90-minute flight from Andrews Air Force Base outside Washington to Ottawa for talks focusing on trade, the global economic crisis and the Afghan war. Obama also met opposition Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff before heading home after a six-hour visit.
Obama, who has enlarged the number of US troops in Afghanistan, said he did not press the Canadian prime minister on the withdrawal of Canadian troops in 2011. Both described their talks as "constructive" and anticipated further strengthening of bilateral ties in the future.
Once they have confirmed their friendship steeped in history, Barack Obama and Stephen Harper offered general climate change mitigation, the right to the world economy and fight side by side - at least until 2011 - in Afghanistan.
"I love this(canada) country" the U.S. president said in his first foreign trip and thousands of convicted of trying to catch a glimpse her back to the worship.
Harper briefly surfed the wave of emotion which gave the Prime Minister, a passionate defense of the Canadian long championed the U.S. border - a message addressed directly to those Americans who are still of the view that Canadians are soft security.
