The world’s best golfer returned from his eight-month layoff with a nice win in round one of the WGC Accenture Match Play Championship, but he followed that up with a weaker performance and loss in round two. It was South African Tim Clark who downed Tiger, beating him 4 and 2 on the second day of action. It cut short Woods first real competition golf since he won the US Open in epic fashion last June. Immediately after he had reconstructive surgery on his left knee.
Tiger commented after the loss in round two, saying "I just didn't get the ball in the hole," but followed up by stating that overall he was happy with his game in after the long layoff. Woods tried to put the pressure on Clark when he holed out from the bunker on 14 to make it just 2 down with four to play. But he got himself right back into trouble with an errant tee shot on 15 that went out of bounds.
Punters who backed Woods watched their tickets go south with that OB off the tee and he ended up going down 3 when he couldn’t scramble for a par, scoring a bogey. Clark then birdied the par-three 16th to finish the match off and cash in a nice ticket for his backers, who put their money on the big underdog.
