Holi, also called the Festival of Colours, is a popular Hindu spring festival observed in India, Guyana, Trinidad, the UK and Nepal. In West Bengal, it is known as Dolyatra or Boshonto Utsav.

On the second day, known as Dhulheti, people spend the day throwing coloured powder andwater at each other. The spring season, during which the weather changes, is believed to cause viral fever and cold. Thus, the playful throwing of the coloured powders has a medicinal significance: the colours are traditionallymade of Neem, Kumkum, Haldi, Bilva, and other medicinal herbs prescribed by Āyurvedic doctors. A special drink called thandai is prepared, sometimes containing bhang.
Rangapanchami occurs a few days later on a Panchami (fifth day of the full moon), marking the end of festivities involving colours. Holi takes place over two days in the later part of February or March. As per the Hindu calendar, it falls on the Phalgun Purnima.

Terror struck at the heart of cricket when masked gunmen attacked the bus carrying the Sri Lankan cricket team to the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. Eight cricketers, including Mahela Jayawardene, the Sri Lankan captain, and his deputy Kumar Sangakkara, received minor injuries. The attack left five security men dead and will almost certainly lead to abandonment of the ongoing Test match.
After this whole incident, the Pakistan team was asked to stay back in their hotel which was beefed up with more security. The Lankan team has been safely taken to a secret location.
While there have been terror strikes on the peripheries of cricket, this is the first time players have been directly targeted. The Sri Lankans were on their way to the Gaddafi Stadium when their bus was attacked by five armed terrorists near Liberty market. Habibur Rehman, chief commissioner of police, said 12 masked terrorists fired at the Sri Lankan team bus. The gunmen shot at the wheels of the bus and also injured the driver. A grenade was also thrown at the bus but it missed. The others players injured are Ajantha Mendis, Thilan Samaraweera and Tharanga Paranavitana.
"The bus came under attack as we were driving to the stadium, the gunmen targeted the wheels of the bus first and then the bus," Mahela Jayawardene told Cricinfo. "We all dived to the floor to take cover. About five players have been injured and also Paul Farbrace [a member of the support staff], but most of the injuries appear to be minor at this stage and caused by debris."

After winning an Oscar for his portrayal of gay activist Harvey Milk, actor Sean Penn now wants US President Barack Obama to watch the film. "Eventually we are hoping for a White House screening. I think this film will be one of the steps forward. It will be part of the dialogue. But I think things are going to go forward with or without it," the actor said.

"That's why this right will become a reality and I think in its own way this film will be part of that," said the actor, who has won the Best Actor Oscar trophy twice.

Azharuddin Ismail Shaikh Usman, the Mumbai slum boy who has now become an international celebrity, may not have landed his plum role in "Slumdog Millionaire" and a good deal of money in the bank but for a happy coincidence, says his agent.
Zainul Abdeen Khan, his agent, says he had taken around 35 children in the required age group for an audition with the production crew of the movie, which has now bagged eight Oscars - a ceremony attended by 10-year-old Azharuddin."It was a long and tiring day almost 18 months ago, when the selections were being done. Finally, one boy was selected for the role and he was to be taken to the director's team for approval," Khan told IANS.
Khan is an agent who has been supplying children to various Bollywood and foreign movie crews in and around Mumbai for the past 10 years. He had been commissioned for the job by a woman, Alka, who was retained by the production team of "Slumdog Millionaire". Initially, the children were to paid up to Rs.150 per day for the smallest role in the movie, according to Khan. The producers entered into a separate arrangement with Azharuddin and paid him a monthly retainership of Rs.5,000 for over a year for his work in the movie.
Later, Azharuddin was paid around Rs.175,000 which has been put aside in a bank account. The producers have also put aside another Rs.2.5 million which he will get when he turns 18, Khan claimed.
"The producers have agreed tentatively to provide a home to Azharuddin and his co-star Rubina Ali, also living in Garib Nagar slum. I showed them around some flats costing Rs.1.75 million, but the producers have kept a decision in abeyance. We are hopeful, now with so many honours to their credit, the producers will not disappoint these two children," Khan claimed.
